How I made studying fun for myself

It's more powerful than you think

Hi everyone.

Now admittedly this is somewhat late, as exams are ending pretty soon. However, this is the exact process that I am following which will help me sustain my studying from now, through mocks and all the way to finals.

Why make studying fun?

• keeps it sustainable

• keeps you motivated

• makes studying easier to do

Now the way I make studying fun is that I make studying like a game. Here’s how it works:

1. do your own style

   • use whatever helps you - diagrams, videos, audio recordings - if it’s your favourite resource, use it

   • use your favourite aesthetic

   • design your environment so that you feel like working → get a nice lamp; have your books and favourite colours open; whatever suits you

2. focus on making progress

   • make a list of what you need to

   • cross off the lists that you need to do

   • use progress as motivation

3. have specific and small objectives that you need to hit

   • study bio → study how translation in protein synthesis takes place

   • the more specific, the easier it is to do it

4. reduce the friction - make it easier for you to get started with studying

   • study using school textbook → study using your favourite resource

   • have flashcards in a pack in your bag across the room → have flashcards on your phone

   • spending an hour on social media → deleting social media apps and spending that time studying your flashcards

   • studying your 50-page module → making notes that summarize everything into 4-5 pages (your brain is more likely to study because it seems easier to do 4-5 pages as opposed to 50 pages).

   • do whatever you can to make it easier for yourself to study

5. make it collaborative

   • livestream your studying - this has become popular “study with me” videos on YouTube

   • hop onto a discord server to study → my discord server

   • invite your friends on a whatsapp call

   • the accountability of everyone studying acts as a social pressure for you to study as well

6. listen to music

   • it doesn’t work for everyone, but it works for me

   • listen to your favourite playlist

   • my lofi playlist on spotify
